In addition to Solid and Gradient fills, you can fill a path object with a bitmap graphic, known as a Pattern fill. Fireworks ships with more than a dozen Pattern fills, including Berber Rug, Photinia Leaves, and Bricks.
You can also use a bitmap file from your computer or a CD-ROM as a Pattern fill. You can use these file formats as patterns: PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, and PICT (Macintosh only).
If a pattern file is a 32-bit transparent image, the transparency will affect the fill when used in Fireworks. If an image is not 32-bit, it will be opaque.
To include an external pattern in the Fill Name pop-up menu for use in all documents, copy the pattern file to the Fireworks 3\Settings\Patterns folder.
To apply a Pattern fill to a selected object:
1 | In the Fill panel, choose Pattern from the Fill Category pop-up menu. |
2 | Choose a pattern: |

The Pattern fill appears in the selected object and becomes the active fill color.
Note: Although the Pattern fill is active and will be applied to subsequent objects you draw, it does not appear in the fill color well in the Toolbox, Fill panel, or Color Mixer.
